Jim Dow

Jim Dow Old School presents an encyclopedic variety of photographs of universities and boarding schools in the northeast. Andover, Brown, Tufts, M.I.T., and Yale have all opened their hallowed halls, their gymnasiums, their library carrels and even their bathrooms to Dow.

Using his signature 8x10” camera and long exposures, Dow produces meticulously detailed views of ornate auditoriums, classrooms, halls, and buildings, as well as their mundane cousins, graffiti-covered dorm room walls and dowdy public rooms full of overstuffed upholstery. The self-referential historical portraits and paraphernalia on display become whimsical in Dow's revealing close-ups. Dow mixes these high and low views to create a surprisingly poignant portrait of higher education in America.

The OPENING RECEPTION is on Saturday March 22nd, 4pm – 6pm

Lee Friedlander These square format images continue Friedlander's ongoing project of dismantling all the genres of photography, replacing old tropes with new.  Wrinkles, grimaces, guts and squints take the place of nubile models and posed smiles.  Lampshades and toys appear growing out of heads.  Long-standing couples interact casually, and helicoptering parents all but smother their young. Previews are available.
