When the gallery was organizing our recent Lee Friedlander exhibition, STILL LIFE, many wonderful images were edited out due to lack of space. At the same time, more photographs arrived, as Friedlander would find “just another few that would be good.” Rather than cram a hundred photographs into a single exhibition, we are pleased to announce a second show of new images: LEE FRIEDLANDER. STILL LIFE: PART II.
Layered images, shadows, reflections, planes: the elements which epitomize Friedlander’s style, are all present in these pictures. Shop windows full of trashy lingerie jostle for space with graffiti-covered trucks. Nothing holds still in Friedlander’s world, until the shutter of the camera subdues it into a complicated and engaging photograph.

Parr has compiled images from various locales throughout the world, from Paris to Moscow, from Durban to Dubai. Gatherings at horse races, art fairs (they're remarkably similar,) concerts and ski slopes, provide Parr with an extraordinary wealth of observations.
Is luxury money, is it excess, is it the enjoyment of arcane pleasures? A cacophony of colors and Parr’s signature love of absurdity, are on view in these charming yet disturbing photographs. The flash, the dressing up and partying, the seemingly coincidental matching of patterns and colors in unlikely places, all commingle in this body of colorful and witty work. In a world seemingly in economic decline, these photographs are all the more revealing and poignant.
An accompanying book is available through the gallery.

LARRY SULTAN
We are very sad to announce the recent death of our wonderful friend and artist, Larry Sultan. Many friends and institutions wrote moving tributes to him, and so we offer these links.
